"Beginning on Monday, November 26, 2007, ALL contest submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges to determine the semi-finalists, according to the criteria set forth in the official rules."
From the MySpace forums about the contest, it seems that some of the participants turned off the voting buttons on their videos during the contest period to prevent "down-voting" from reducing their approval rating.
ReplyDeleteWhatever the reason, it's clear from the postings on MySpace that almost nobody who participated in the contest felt the original voting method was a fair way to run the contest, or likely to select the best entries.
It's also interesting that the people running the contest apparently sent out the clearance paperwork (waivers, etc.) to the 12 previous semi-finalists prior to this decision being made by higher interested authorities, who received many complaints and reports of possible tampering from the other contest participants.
All in all, this is a good result because it means each video that meets the basic contest requirements will be viewed by a "panel of experts." That might mean a little exposure to someone in the film/TV industry for Jeromy Barber's work, and other worthy entries that would have been overlooked otherwise.
Good luck Jeromy!
awesome content, thanks for sharing.
