WGA strike!!!!!!!
The WGA strike will be announced tomorrow.
SNL, Jon Stewart Show and the Late Night Shows will be the first noticeable hit. They should shut down almost immediately. Next, daytime soaps.
"URGENT! Hollywood Writers Strike Called; Timing Announcement To Come Friday; Actors Agree To Walk WGA Picket Lines; AMPTP Says 'No Progress Can Be Made'"
"The WGA leadership said tonight it waited until the writers contract expired at midnight on October 31st to see if the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers prez Nick Counter came up with a last-minute (and expected low-ball) offer -- but he didn't."

Here's how strike could affect TV
http://www.newsobserver.com/105/story/753949.html
"Since the Internet is severing the attachment to network TV, why not make it complete and get your shows online? Short, continuing "series" -- such as the affecting "Hometown Baghdad," the recently launched "Total Pop Star," or the much talked-about "Lonelygirl15" -- may get a boost in traffic if everyone's TVs are dark."
So have we determined if this will affect any of our online serials???
ReplyDeleteI believe that LG uses non-union writers so it should not directly affect Lonelygirl15....at least that would be my guess.
ReplyDeleteThis should get interesting really fast...if this lasts to the point where they have to start airing repeats, viewers are going to be looking for something fresh to watch. It could be just the chance online serials need to grab some new viewers.
ReplyDeleteMixFranXon better keep that second BreeFM server on standby!
ReplyDeleteIf my assumptions are correct... this is going to really F* over "Quarterlife" because I read somewhere that they were using legitimate writers... eep!
ReplyDeleteModelmotion posted another article earlier on this subject (LG15 Today October 23) http://lg15today.blogspot.com/2007/10/hollywood-moguls-sounding-strike-happy.html with a link to Deadline Hollywood Daily.
ReplyDeleteI found that article a bit surprising because I think some of the new shows this year are pretty good, but it seemed to be saying the entire season was a ratings bust.
I have enjoyed new shows like Life, Private Practice, Samantha Who? and K-Ville and some of the returning shows including Heroes, Bones, Boston Legal, Men In Trees, Shark, Prison Break, and House. There are more good shows than I have time to watch regularly. But that's a good thing, isn't it?
Well, if they have to interrupt the season, at least Lost is on hiatus until the Spring. Hollywood does not want to mess with deprived Lost fans. ;)
