Design Changes?
We appear to be experiencing a few design changes to LG15 Today. I am not exactly sure what is going on but I am sure it will settle down after a while. Needless to say when that happens we will open up the design changes to discussion so you can tell us what you think.
Normally changes are tested out on the beta site, but for some reason the current changes are being inplemented on the live site. If the person making the changes can fill us in on what is going on I am sure we would all appreciate it.
EDIT: Gremlins!
No, just trying some new colors - and was just going to post about it asking for feedback... so... please post your reactions to the changes as a comment here!
Here is a "before" image so you can compare colors.
Here is what it would look like if ALL colors were inverted:
EDIT 2: I tried to address some of the concerns posted here already, and am done making changes for the moment.
I lightened the sunset image and swapped it around so the darkest clouds are not behind the "LG15 Today" title, changed the subtitle to bold font, changed the purple to maroon (to clash less), and fixed the bullets.
The colors look good on my laptop screen, but may be dark on some monitors - I'm not sure. If you adjust your brightness, and still have trouble reading anything on the blog, please post a comment here & specify which item is hard to read.

i like the new colours, a nice change
ReplyDeleteThe banner at the top "Breaking news from the breeniverse" is a bit hard to read, but other than that it looks good :)
ReplyDeleteHe he he.....those Gremlins! Thanks for the feedback Q. I had a hunch but I was not sure...lol....
ReplyDeleteEverything is undo-able by the way, in case that wasn't clear!
ReplyDeleteThe description text Greg is talking about could be made white perhaps.
I like it. I say, invert it ALLLLL! :-D
ReplyDeleteBy the way (again), this all started because I took a screen capture of Impulse's video here on the blog (of the people walking through the maze) and inverted it to see what it looked like "normally" ... and noticed the sidebar was kind of a cool looking purple.
ReplyDeletelol......its never a dull moment on the blog!
ReplyDeleteHey, we have sunset now...
ReplyDeletei like the look of the total inversion
ReplyDeleteI don't like the pink background of the total inversion. The rest looks fine.
ReplyDeleteI like it how it currently is as I post ths comment.
The purple is calling me. It's saying "make me more maroon."
ReplyDeleteI'm ignoring the purple for now.
ReplyDeleteUgh, make it clash less, please.
ReplyDeleteI can currently hardly see "LG15 Today" at the top.
ReplyDeleteIt is also hard to read "Fast breaking news direct from the Breeniverse"
I find it too dark. Try and either lighten up the backgrounds a little more, or make the text lighter.
ReplyDeleteAt least it's not like when LG15 changed their web site to eye blinding levels.
ReplyDeletesnazzy and crisp! i likeey!

I like the new look!
ReplyDeleteYea, I like it too. I stand firm that a dark background with light text is much easier on the eyes.
ReplyDeleteGood job Q :)
me likes it!
ReplyDeleteI like the inverted colors, as they currently are as I post this comment. The darker tones are a very nice touch considering how long the LG15 pages had remained such 'soft' tones. There is one thing that I find a bit of conflict in though and that is the sunset image at the top. It is a beautiful image, but it doesn't really relate to lonelgirl15, katemodern, redearth88 or any of the other topics that are addressed from this page. It diverts away from what this page was originally for, kind of like how everyone went berserk when the creators of lonelygirl15 changed the site to lg15. It made everything 'less personal' and I see this happening here. If that's your intentions, than good job, but I just wanted to address the fact.
ReplyDeleteI am sure Q will read through all the comments. Thanks everyone. Maybe we will have another round of feedback in a few days once we are all used to the changes and we can go from there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hard work on the design Q!
One thing we could do pretty easily is occasionally change the image at the top for special occasions. It would be a manual edit to the template html each time though - nothing automated.
ReplyDeleteThe image behind the "LG15 Today" title is a jpg 724 x 102 pixels, but only the top 72 pixels of the image are visible on the blog in it's current form (the extra height allows for changes in font size to the title)
I kind of like the maroon side bar, but I have some nitpicks:
ReplyDelete1. The red at the top BURNINATES, since it's next to the maroon. If you leave it red, at least change the font color for the subheader. I can barely read it.
2. Gray on maroon is generally an aesthetic no-no. Hell, the orange text hurts, too. Otherwise, me likey.
Honestly, I think the biggest problem with the darker colors is the overuse of the color black. It's not enough contrast in some areas, and too much in others.
I love the new look! Refreshing with good colors.
