Think twice before you sign up for an online service using a fake name or e-mail address. You could be committing a federal crime.

The legal argument behind this is very interesting and actually appears to have implications for anyone who creates a fictitious MySpace (or other) account.
ReplyDeleteYet they promoted the 12 in 12 last year.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they would actively seek out imposters unless they did what this person(s) did. To round up and discard all the ficticious names on MySpace would not only be more trouble than it's worth, but it would kill the market. Not many folks use their real names online.
In fact, using a real name in the context of such an anonymous medium could be quite harmful.
Either way, I hope this woman really does spend twenty years behind bars for this. What she did was utterly horrible.
