Anonymous becomes the topic of the day.

"The Resistance" is not out the door yet but it has already become the center of controversy on Lonelygirl15 "comments" with the community discussing whether or not it is a "rip off" from Anonymous.

Hello, Scientology. We are Anonymous.

you can’t really explain Anonymous. youtube it

Who is Anonymous?

Anonymous is a cultural phenomenon which began on internet image boards. Many such boards require no registration for posting, and every poster remains anonymous. This format of communication is inherently noisy and chaotic. However, the unprecedented openness made possible by such boards has nurtured the appearance of a unique and persistent culture.

We are a collection of individuals united by ideas. You likely know Anonymous, although you don’t know exactly who we are. We are your brothers and sisters, your parents and children, your superiors and your underlings. We are the concerned citizens standing next to you. Anonymous is everywhere, yet nowhere. Our strength lies in our numbers. Our will as a whole is the combined will of individuals. Our greatest advantage is a knowledge of the fundamentals we share as human beings. This knowledge is a fruit of our anonymity.

Anonymous has left its mark on society more than once. Previous Anonymous projects have resulted in the closing of the white-supremacist radio show produced by Hal Turner, and the criminal prosecution of Canadian pedophile Chris Forcand. Anonymous has been called a “Cyber Vigilante Group”

What do you think?

  1. "The Resistance" better hope they don't become a target of the actual "Anonymous" - although that IS a show I might enjoy watching. ;) http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/03/magazine/03trolls-t.html

  2. Not a rip off ... using an artificially generated or modified voice (as many have done in online videos) and being against a group does not make "The Resistance" a rip off of "Anonymous."

If you want to play with voice-synthesis, I used this web-based AT&T Labs demo to make some voice clips for some LOST fan videos I made a couple of years ago: http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php

It gives some strange pronunciation, but you can play around with punctuation and spelling by trial and error to improve the results a bit.

  3. It's more the style and the video and the voice that has a somewhat anonymous feel to it.
I doubt it is a rip off, it could be cited as one of the videos influences.

anonymous will likely already know about the lg15resistance video, i doubt they deem it notable enough to do anything.

  4. Whether or not the video is copied from Anonymous is moot. The idea here is, once again, to give the viewer the idea they can interact with the series by joining "the resistance."

Viewers cannot actually interact with the series. Yes, they can leave a voice mail and have their nickname mentioned in a video. They can help solve a "puzzle" and also be mentioned.

The "new" series isn't new. It is simply a continuation of the old series. My opinion of this hasn't changed from Terryfic's previous evaluation: it is a COMEDY series. If you look at it from that perspective, then it is truly entertaining.

  5. Anonymous is about as unoriginal as LG15 so exactly how is LG15 ripping them off.

Lets suspend our disbeliefs for a moment and say LG15 did rip them off. This is the similar argument that Bill Gates stole the idea for Windows from Steve Jobbs. Which is true, but Steve Jobbs got it from Xerox. So Xerox can complain about it all, but Jobbs/Anonymous shouldn't throw rocks in glass houses.

  6. Xerox was in fact running it on a mini computer. The genius of Steve Jobs was to take what was being done on a more powerful computer and adapt it so it would run on a personal computer.... and the Mac was born.

As for windows. I will take the 436th.

  7. First of, though anonymous has done a few good things, most of the stuf they do can be considered as bad. Things such as DDos attacks on innocent web sites and other such raid are only a few of the things that anonymous has done. Others include the destroying of peoples lifes for "epic lulz". Do not get me wrong. Some of the things that anonymous stands for are great, and I also love my right to remain anonymous, but when addressing the group anonymous, you are addressing more than one group. You are in fact addressing several.

The video "the Resistance" might be similar to videos made by parts of anonymous, but in fact anonymous can be just as easily related to HoO

Only someone who knows nothing about anonymous and has only viewed it from a certain perspective would consider Anonymous and the Resistance as anything similar.

  8. Interesting anonymous, perhaps we should have you write an article on anonymous:)
