United Under One Banner
Taking up Q's call for header options. The style pays tribute to the mothership while being more representative of the content of the blog. Experimented a little with the colors to match the current color scheme. (The originals are larger.)
EDIT: Modified versions that fit the design dimensions - for your consideration. (note that the black frame of the blog would be added to what you see here) Click to see actual size versions. These images are 724 x 102 but only 722 x 73 is visible on the blog as the bottom is cut off. The vertical dimension is determined by the font size of the title text with a buffer around it. ~ QtheC
Here's one by Deviant Metzli:
I vote for the lowest one. Sticks closest to the original.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of these a lot... nice job. It would be great to see more header suggestions like these.
ReplyDeleteOn the design, it would be better to match the height of what we have now. For dimensions see: http://lg15today.blogspot.com/2008/09/new-blog-header.html
Originally, this blog had a taller header (from the blogger template), and we shortened it vertically to allow more content to show immediately when you load the page. We also had a static message at the top that we eventually removed for the same reason... so you can refresh the page and see when there is something new added to the blog without scrolling down.
I like these! The middle one looks great, as does the bottom one.
ReplyDeleteAs an unofficial blog it is not always wise to create a "logo" that has look/feed of an official web site. I also think that if we could slim down the banner at the top it would help display content better.
ReplyDeleteyou know I was thinking that any community related site could take this design and put their logo to the left of the fragmented line. maybe we should take that concept and come up with an original "The Community" logo that can be used like that.
ReplyDeleteThe back ground used in the current header looks very similar to the one designed by Casey. Did you get permission to use it?
ReplyDeleteThe inclusions of characters from one series does not fully represent the news coverage of this blogspot. We cover stories of interest to people in the Breeniverse which is the community of people that grew out of the original series. Many of those no longer watch anything from Eqal but do watch other fan created series. I think the banner should represent the breadth of community interest but it should also not attempt to confuse this blogspot with LG15: The Resistance by using similar design concepts.
I think we should go for something unique that truely represents the community and all that it offers.
mm, you understand the faces are coming down after premier week right? (i.e. Sept 20)
ReplyDeleteAs for the focus of this blog, I disagree with the degree of Modelmotion's de-emphasis on LG15 shows.
ReplyDeleteAs I commented on the previous article about the header design, yes, this blog supports community series, but it also originated with Lonelygirl15, the "mother-ship" ... the LG15 shows and related news have always received a lot of coverage here and are the common point that brings this community together. The LG15 focus brings readers to this blog which brings viewers to the community series we feature here.
As LG15 evolves and it's visual presentation changes tone, I think it makes sense for this blog to reflect that source material in a general way.
If a community artist comes up with a header design that is unique to this blog while reflecting both LG15 and community series, that would be cool.
I like the look and feel of these. But just so you know, the new website has a "Community" link that will link to Community offerings. I just want to make sure people don't say later that they copied anyone. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks BK- More reason to go with an original graphic.
ReplyDeleteQ- Gotta disagree with you. when the blog started this was a place to collect lg15 related news. Other community driven projects didn't exist or where just getting started. Now there is insidelg15 and looks like the new site will feature more of the community work. To keep the same focus is redundant. What truly makes this a community blog is that it highlights the things that fall out of that scope.
BK, that's great to hear and I can't wait to see the community link on the new website.
ReplyDeleteNeeds more robot.
ReplyDeleteBy "robot" I assume you mean Aunt Alex? ;)
ReplyDeletehttp://lg15today.blogspot.com/2007/03/aunt-alex-may-be-robot.html
or perhaps LGBot?
http://lg15today.blogspot.com/2008/07/lgbot-juggles-for-world-peace-lgbot.html
or mmbot?
http://lg15today.blogspot.com/2007/09/happy-robot-bday-modelmotion.html
I like the last two, the blue one and the green one which i like the most.
ReplyDeleteI agree that "the community" bit should be dropped as what BK said.
But i like how the LG15 Today looks in the green banner. I think just changing the text from "the community" to something else would be better, perhaps adding "fast breaking new direct from the breeniverse" instead.
Also the site is primary a LG15 site, it is called LG15Today. It is first a LG15 fan run community and after that it covers works from members of the community and other shows and arg's.
What is the font used for these new banners?
"It is first a LG15 fan run community and after that it covers works from members of the community and other shows and arg's."
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure this is quite accurate anymore. I agree that it may have been the original intent upon it's founding (but I can't confirm that), but it has clearly grown far beyond that limited focus and I can't see why the design of the sites "look" can't reflect that growth and change.
And BK made no statement that we should not use The Community, he was just informing us that the new lg15.com website will also have a Community component, which is I think is fantastic. "Great Minds" and all.
I was referring to what Broken Kid said, i did not mean that he stated that "the community" should not be used.
ReplyDeletePerhaps then multiple banners, that are rotated in their usage. So that every time you refresh the site you see one of a number of different banners. These banners could be of the other shows that the blog covers as well as LG15.
There's no way to automate rotating a header - it requires a manual edit to blog template code (not something done without care). I would suggest going for a mostly static header and continuing to put changing content on the blog itself.
ReplyDeleteKindredphantom, I'm not sure about the left hand side, but I think the words on the right side "the community" may be bold font Dotum.
ReplyDeleteDotum is not it, that is a korean font. (according to google at least)
ReplyDeleteIt seems like franklin gothic medium cond or a some variation.
Is it even called the Breeniverse anymore?
ReplyDelete"It is first a LG15 fan run community and after that it covers works from members of the community and other shows and arg's."
ReplyDeleteSome people have disagreed with this notion, which seems hypocritical since the URL/name of the blog is "LG15 Today."
Interesting debate. I just want to let you all know that if you decide to use the LG15 logo, we are totally cool with that and you have our permission to use it as part of the header..
ReplyDeleteThe way we use the Breeniverse now is in the sense of the community of people that grew out of watching Bree. Anything that comes out of the creative minds of that community can pretty much be considered within the Breeniverse as opposed to the more narrowly defined LG15 Universe.
ReplyDeleteThe original concept of the blog was to keep people up to date with all the antics going on within the community from snowball fights on comments to lonelypirates15. The fact that it has become a great venue for community videos makes it even better.
Does anyone know where I can find that font????
ReplyDeleteI just installed the new red, blue and grey header by Deviant Metzli ... note this is the full 174 x 102 pixels, by choosing "replace title and description" in the header widget.
ReplyDeleteThis removes the maroon and orange spacer with the small description text "Breaking News Direct From The Breeniverse"
What do you think of this design?
FAST BREAKING NEWS DIRECT FROM THE BREENIVERSE could go directly in the header and save space.
ReplyDeleteooh neat! I think it looks rad I hope everyone likes it!! :)
ReplyDeleteNice banner deviantmetztli. It works well.
ReplyDeleteSo you found out what the font was deviantmetztli, what is it by the way? Out of curiosity.
I actually never found the font, I just saved the other community banners inverted them and then defined preset brushes off of them for photoshop :)
ReplyDeleteI see, well that is good.
ReplyDeleteDeviant Metztli gave me a new version with the tag line included in the header as Modelmotion requested ... better?
ReplyDeleteThanks to both deviantmetztli and anthonyde for working on this for the blog - I think it looks great.
It's pretty nifty, yeah.
ReplyDeleteYou might try a version without the fracture stress line. I understand you are going for the feel of the LG15 logo but my hunch is the banner design as it stands would work better without it.
ReplyDeleteI think the addition of the tag line to the banner itself helped a lot in terms of balance.
Just curious... what does the text background actually say........ i hope its not a subliminal message to join the Order:)
Deviant posted about the background text on my board ... just a pattern as far as she knows.
ReplyDeleteOr isssssssssssssssss it???! ;)
ReplyDeleteWe don't seem to be getting any more feedback so I took down the "header". However we can continue to talk to each other about the banner as we adapt to it over time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your efforts deviantmetztli!!!
The fun thing about the blogspot is that the community really do get to choose how it looks so any help is always appreciated.
