LG15: The Show is Yours - Submit Your Pilot!
LG15: THE SHOW IS YOURS
Submit Your Social Show Pilot!
Submit Your Social Show Pilot!
Do you think you have what it takes to make the next LG15 series? Here’s your chance! Submit your ORIGINAL LG15 PILOT and get the chance to see your show be the featured content on LG15.com.
The chosen video pilot may be turned into a full-length social show, which will be the featured content for eight (8) weeks beginning in February 2009.
The Pilot:
- Your pilot must be derivative of the LG15 Universe by building upon the mythology of lonelygirl15, KateModern, and LG15: The Resistance. For more information on LG15, please read the LGPedia, the #1 resource on all things LG15.
- The pilot can either be Episode One of your proposed show or a Pilot Presentation, which gives a general idea of the look and feel of the proposed show. It must be no more than 5 minutes in length.
- Upload your video to YouTube and send the link with your social show treatment to [email protected]. All pilots will be showcased on Inside LG15 and the LG15 YouTube page.
- All video submissions must also include an 8-week social show treatment that outlines your story, characters, and interactivity. Your treatment must incorporate all aspects of a social show. A social show is an experience on a website where a community participates in a specific entertainment property by viewing and discussing videos and other multimedia content, and by interacting with the characters through profile pages, commenting, and chat.
- We will begin accepting videos on December 29, 2008. The deadline for submission is Monday, January 19, 2009 at 3:00 PM PST. The selected pilot will be announced on January 26, 2009.
If Chosen:
- If your pilot is chosen to be the featured content on LG15.com, it will become part of the LG15 canon. You will be asked to assist in the creation of one piece of content each day, Monday through Friday. This will require at least 2 videos per week, plus additional content such as pictures, text blogs, and interactivity. Other members of the LG15 community and EQAL may also contribute to the creation of the featured content.
- An EQAL producer may consult with you and your production team and review scripts and videos to ensure that your story is consistent with the LG15 Universe and uploaded in a timely manner for the benefit of the community.
- EQAL may also create a custom show page for your show that will be a sub-domain of LG15.com (e.g. LG15.com/yourshow).
- For more information about how your content will be used on LG15.com and by EQAL and others about your obligations and the rights you will grant without monetary consideration, please refer to our Terms of Use. Your submission of material further confirms your acceptance of the Terms of Use.
Good Luck! We look forward to watching everyone’s pilots and seeing what the LG15 Community will do with the Breeniverse.

Hmmmm...I've got to be honest and say I'm not sure what to make of this. I mean, it's a great idea in theory but you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men...
ReplyDeleteAnd to be even more honest, it seems like a bit of a copout to me. Its almost like they have realized the crazy, hole-filled, Not-Plot is something they can't figure a way out of so lets see if someone else has an original idea. Does that make sense? I mean, why would someone do a lot of hard work for someone else, get no monetary compensation, only more work and recognition on a quickly dying website/forum. Uh...I can do that on my own, with a completely different storyline to work with and without the restrictions imposed by their contest.
Sorry kids...you know somebody had to be the Negative Nancy. Might as well be me and not Anonymous lol
where does this leave us with OpAphid, Tachyon and that entire segment of the mythology. I would assume that those characters and that part of the mythology. are considered "out of bounds" since the derivative series is going to become canon. Right?
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Ziola and think this is a very interesting opportunity to create a story within the Universe.
ReplyDeleteBut that's just me being a Positive (Is there even a good name that begins with P?)
I'd like to see a community show on the frontpage. I have faith that someone will come up with a great idea.
I suppose those are out of bounds unless Glenn allows them to be used for this community based project.
ReplyDeleteThat whole segment of the mythology, and all of its problems is a whole can of worms now.
I don't understand why anyone would want to do this without monetary compensation. They are asking for an AWFUL lot of work... a full-time commitment really, and the person who does it doesn't even get to retain the rights to their submissions. Seems like a ripoff to me.
ReplyDeletei am busy writing a script for my series all focused on jules.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Eqal, Inc. should consider some sort of revenue sharing model where the series creators are treated as partners in exchange for their intellectual property input to the derivative canon series they create using elements of the LG15 mythology.
ReplyDeleteI would submit lonefox101 but , I don't know if that would work, since I was trying to get away from the order being the antagonist in season 3
ReplyDeleteany revenue sharing should really be profit-sharing only to take into account the cost of eqal promoting and hosting the show. and its unlikely any fan-based show will make a profit, so promising to share protects the creator in the unlikely and happy event that success ensues.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be a serious flaw in this plan. It is one thing to produce your own show in the LG15 Universe, posting videos on a regular basis because you feel an obligation to your viewership, but not actually having any external forces control what you do or when (aside from like... RL commitments or what have you, but you get my point). And at the end of the day, you still get full creative control over what you produce. Even if you cannot monetize the property, it is yours and you are proud of it.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, with this EQAL proposal, you would be committed to do content 5 times a week, whether you were available or not, would lose creative control over your show, seeing as how EQAL and members of the community have the right to review/edit aspects of your show, and not get anything in return. Yes, you wouldn't be able to monetize the property on your own, but neither would the paid writers/editors/etc who work on LG15 be able to take this property elsewhere and monetize it independently of EQAL. You are basically being expected to do the full-time work of a full-time employee, while LOSING creative control and time-related freedom, and are getting NOTHING in reward aside from a feature at LG15.com, which... all UGC productions were supposed to be able to be featured on the site, not to the same extent, mind you, but still.
I just don't see how this can be viewed as anything but a ripoff in the eyes of an informed community.
If I could pay the creators to do this, now that would make it perfect...
ReplyDeleteIt is not outright said here whether or not the UGC creator picked for this is going to receive any monetary compensation for their work. Asking for treatments is standard practice, so that part doesn't bother me (though the extremely short deadline for doing an entire 8 week story outline is a little daunting)...but yes, asking someone to commit full-time to the creation of an eight week series should be something compensated for. If that can be assured, I think Eqal will receive far more interest and in turn, much higher quality submissions.
ReplyDelete"For more information about how your content will be used on LG15.com and by EQAL and others about your obligations and the rights you will grant without monetary consideration, please refer to our Terms of Use. Your submission of material further confirms your acceptance of the Terms of Use."
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like there will be no monetary consideration awarded for the producer to me. Perhaps I am misreading it and that is only for the pilots? Although it is under the "If Chosen" section, so I am assuming otherwise...
I think profit sharing would be an improvement over the current deal. One has to assume that a show might actually do very well and perhaps even have its own product placements and revenue stream and they need to work out how to handle that. The point is that this should be approached as a business proposal complete with a way for creators to share in any profits.
ReplyDeleteNow since "The Home Office" series has already been done and is a derivative series why don't they post that on LG15.com under its own URL while we wait? Perhaps that could help work out some of the bugs.
I'm with Milo. A "profit sharing" model would work because the Cs have no way of knowing if this series would be profitable. They can't really offer monetary compensation.
ReplyDeleteI don't think your going to lose complete creative control over your series if you submit it. The story becomes part of the LG15 canon, and they want to keep the chosen series inline with how they see the show going. I don't think they are planning on selecting a series only to re-write it because that seems rather daft (and more work for them).
The content requirement is a lot, but hopefully they plan to provide enough help to ease that burden somewhat. And at least only 2 days have to be videos. I think since this would be an 8 week program, it would be an interesting challenge. It reminds me of National Novel Writing Month in that regard -- you have to work really hard and challenge yourself to meet a goal that seems impossible. It's a personal challenge as much as anything. And also, if the selected creator has issues meeting that content need they & Eqal can turn to the community to help them and fill the void.
This is something interesting and new, not something that has been done before and I hate to see people anonymously (or basically anonymously) attacking it. Sometimes I wonder if you guys forget that the Creators are people too and members of our community and don't deserved to be accused of trying to cheat & steal.
We've always said that we wanted community series to play a bigger role and we've often wanted community series to become part of the LG15 canon. This is the opportunity for the community create something great. Why don't we focus on that rather than panicking over things that might not even become relevant problems.
I like your idea about the Home Office (or any user series thats currently happening with a willing creator).
ReplyDeleteI think they should post some community videos on the front page in the meantime.
Actually "The Flock" was pretty much a fan created project to do something within the LG15 Universe. The only difference now is that instead of ignoring fan contributions the creators now want to foster them. But to say that this is new is not really accurate. This concept has been floating around the fan community for a long time and even the concept of shared universe elements has been considered all be it in a parallel universe.
ReplyDeleteI wish Veela had been around for The Flock, OpAphid, etc. Back when a lot of us felt the way she did.
ReplyDeleteThe Creators ARE people. But they are also running a business and as such, we are entitled to question the motivations of a business we may choose to submit and ultimately work with. That's just smart business sense.
It sounds to me like the don't have any money to pay real writers or actors, so they came up with this.
ReplyDeleteGood idea, but where is THEIR original content. Not available at this time I bet due to lack of funds.
There is no reason other than that why they could not due this as a project concurrent with their own work.
I will let the UGC experts weigh in from their POV, but the nagging TOS issues have never been resolved.
A good opportunity for an auteur with no job and some working capital, but not much different than a straight YT release where at least you are not giving away the creative rights.
Ripoff in sheeps clothing. We've seen this guys huckster away, I give them credit; they are quite good at it.
We have a lot of great video makers in the community and it just seems that if there is going to be any profit they should share in the profit especially if they do all the work. Now it is more than likely that there will be zero profit but the business model should be based on the assumption that there will be a profit, especially if the creator of the series is able to bring in their own sponsor. It is hard to see how Eqal could have any problem with that. Right?
ReplyDeleteFans built an entire ning social network platform (http://wethehomeoffice.ning.com/) around The Home Office series which is set in the LG15 Universe but it gained very little traction. It would be interesting to see if posting it on LG15.com could generate more views than the original posting on youtube.
ReplyDeleteVeelaValoom, I am not sure why you are trying to defend the Creators as people when no one here is attacking them as people. This has nothing to do with whether the C's are good, bad, or other. This is about EQAL as a business making a business proposition, and us, as participants in this business arrangement, looking at the offer on the table and attempting to decide whether or not it is fair and reasonable. There is a clearly defined difference here.
ReplyDeleteI'm not normally critical of the Creators, but I have to question this idea a bit.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the idea that an original content creator will be given a spot on LG15.com - and I LOVE the idea that their new show will be canon.
However, I don't think it's fair for the LG15 team to expect said content creator to create a show, more-or-less by him/herself and with his/her own resources. This is a show that is being elevated to a canon level - LG15, KM, TR. Such a work shouldn't be the responsibility of a fan, with the LG15 crew only to look over scripts to make sure it fits with their universe.
If this project were something like, "Create a pilot and outline it, and we'll produce it with your supervision" or "We're going to feature a selected fan series on the website [on THEIR terms]," then that'd be cool. But setting limitations and making requirements (eg. two videos a week, daily content) for content creators implies that those creators are under contract - thus, they (in a sense) become employees of EQAL and should be compensated as such.
This is just my opinion, and I'm hoping that my fears will be cleared up over the next few days. However, as it stands, I'm somewhat skeptical of this idea.
That said, I'm hoping to see something really cool and creative come out of this! We have a lot of extremely talented video producers in our community--Jenni Powell and Logan Rapp, to name the first two that come to mind--and this kind of project has the potential to be epic and awesome. BUT - and this is a big but - it would require equal collaboration between the community member and the LG15 crew.
I'm hoping for the best with this project, but I do have concerns. :)
I practically begged the C's to include UGC in their show months ago. Now that they finally appear ready to do so, I wish them well. I suspect the idea still has some merit and potential.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't think the producers of this content should expect payment or profit. I also don't think they should be expected to submit content under their real names, or to be required to sign an NDA.
I suspect that they will be asked after they have submitted their content to do exactly that. Mark my words.
If the C's are gonna ask people to use their real names and sign non-disclosure agreements, I think they should be up front about it.
Again, I wish them well with the experiment.
To add to my previous comment, the ambiguity I'm seeing is highlighted in two lines. I think that if these points were made clearer, we'd all feel more comfortable with (and excited about) this new project.
ReplyDelete1) You will be asked to assist in the creation of one piece of content each day, Monday through Friday.
Is this assistance going to be relatively low-commitment (eg. outlining a video), medium-commitment (eg. scripting a video), or high-commitment (eg. creating a video)?
2) Other members of the LG15 community and EQAL may also contribute to the creation of the featured content.
To what extent will EQAL contribute to the creation of the featured content?
Of course they are going to make people sign NDAs. They are viewing this as the new series on their website, and to ensure that no spoilers about "their" series is released, they will have the person sign an NDA.
ReplyDeleteThe person or persons responsible for making this series from the community are essentially being treated as employees of EQAL, and as such, should be compensated like any other employee of EQAL, plain and simple.
The main issue I see is that this is a lot of work to ask a fan. I think this will work best if a group of fans work together so that the load does not fall entirely on one person. I think anyone realizes that is a lot for one person to take on. For me to write/make an occasional vlog takes me forever sometimes.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes I'm defending them as people because I think a lot of people are implying that there is intentional trickery and bad will. I think its important to remember that they are not some distant producers, but still a part of our community and they deserve to be treated fairly. I care about them as I care about many of you.
I suppose its hard to say to what extent Eqal will provide content until they know exactly what the series is and the capabilities of the content creator.
Veela_Valoom:
ReplyDeleteOh, I certainly don't think that there's ill-will or bad intentions here, and I hope I didn't come across that way. However, I strongly feel that some things need to be clarified before anyone can really feel comfortable about submitting a pilot to this project.
Your last point is very valid - EQAL may provide different levels of content depending on the series that is selected - but content creators need to have at least a general idea about this up front. Once a pilot is submitted and selected, a content creator is more-or-less obligated to carry through with eight weeks worth of content. If he/she is expected to do this primarily by him/herself, then he/she needs to fully understand that high level of time-commitment before submitting a pilot.
I do not think that looking for a business model that treats everyone fairly implies that their is any trickery on the part of the creators. So far this scheme just seems a bit half baked and the UGC community have been over and over all this territory since the huge TOS debate. A lot of these issued are not new and if the creators had engaged the UGC community when they asked for it, this party could have started a long long long time ago. Now they have to produce content for a web site that is lacking the one big draw: LG15 itself (Jonas, Reed, Maggie, Sarah and Danielbeast). So remind me again. What exactly are the creators bringing to the party given that we will probably be highly restricted in how we can use their characters and their elements and we do not even know if there will be any future to LG15 and if there is we will have to work within the confines of some non existent future story. It is just a bit complex and a lot still needs to be explained.
ReplyDeleteNDAs are fine. That's standard operating procedure.
ReplyDeleteDoing it without any financial backing and expecting updates five days a week? Less so.
Here's hoping the Cs will clarify and make it known it's going to be worth the while of those submitting pilots. People have rent to pay, much less production costs.
I only read the first few comments, but I think this idea sucks. So, let me get this straight: we're going to entirely abandon the current show in order to turn our attention to new characters within the same universe, correct? So what about Jonas and Maggie, who are being raped and tortured? And Daniel and Reed, who are presumably going to try and help them? And what about those of us that have...lives? I'd love it if MY show could become canon and gain that kind of recognition, but it doesn't have daily content over 8 weeks, damn.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that the original fan idea of having a "hook" within an ongoing series was probably more workable. However maybe Eqal ran out of funding for the main series since they do not appear to have a sponsor, they are not supposed to spend the venture capital on it and it is not getting the kind of views to support a show production like this. So, I guess his is where we are left.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this idea but I don't have people that I could produce a pilot with to submit, nor film a series with.
ReplyDeleteUnless...do you actually have to film the thing and such yourself? Or if you win, will you just have to write the thing and they'll film it on their end? I'm a bit confused...
Maybe someone can afford to hire Yousef to play DannyB in their series....... now that would be interesting:)
ReplyDeletejust saying.
LMAO Loretta you freaking read my mind!:P I completely agree, im starting season 3 of Lonefox101 and Im pretty sure I dont have enough material to make 5 days a week content:P thats crazy:P plus we have lives out side ofthe show and our fanfics, thats the fun of them being "fanfics" they allow us to show our creativity and production skills on our own time, an to fit our schedules, i have one semester of highschool left then on to college or film school, I also have a part time job, there's no way I can have the dedication to put all of my priorities on hold to produce 8 5 day weeks worth of content, thats something for a well established production company to do:P not a 17 year old teenager who is trying to get through high school to do, with that being said, until this contest gets fixed, im not entering:P Some thing that will make it work is if we made this a community effort to produce 1 show, and collaborated tell a story within 1 universe , cough* arg, cough!
ReplyDeletewait I think I relise what this is about, this is a test from the creators1 to show how difficult it can be to come up with daily content for 12 weeks straight! great joke C's!:P
ReplyDelete"Some thing that will make it work is if we made this a community effort to produce 1 show, and collaborated tell a story within 1 universe , cough* arg, cough!"
ReplyDeleteI honestly think that is the best way for this to work. I think it would be great if a lot of the creative minds within the community worked together so the weight did not fall on one responsible party. This way if someone had a life crisis, hopefully their friends and co-creators would be able to fill the void.
Does anyone else find it weird that they are suddenly going back to the use of the term "Breeniverse" after spending the past year and a half trying to distance themselves from anything related to Bree?
ReplyDeleteShould those of us interested in working together as a community on this create a thread on the forums or a group of some sort...or something? lol.
ReplyDelete-If EQAL is going to monetize this in any way they should share with the content creator, even if it's just a split from the YouTube partnership program. It's to their benefit because for this to not be a total joke it's going to have to have a certain production value.
ReplyDelete-For this to have any appeal outside of the core fanbase EQAL should probably provide access to an lg15 established character(actor.) Could be Nikki B, Toby, PharmaGuy, etc etc.
Check it out: http://youtube.com/lg15
ReplyDeleteAmanda has always said Breeniverse (I think)
ReplyDeleteI think starting a group somewhere to bounce ideas would be great. Though, I wish it would be somewhere with private messaging.
Do they know that the Breeniverse includes any show created by a community member which includes shows outside the LG15 Universe?
ReplyDeleteWhen I look back on it says "The pilot can either be Episode One of your proposed show or a Pilot Presentation" I guess I can't submit the first episode of Lonefox101 season 3:Chaos Echoes, unless I made season 3 a new show with a new name, hmm

oh, if only there were some fan run forum that is over 2 years old that has pms, subboards, etc ...
:-)
Great idea, milowent. Its a shame something like that doesn't already exist, not being used.
ReplyDeletePsst. They mean Anchor Cove.
ReplyDelete:)
I wish I had a list of all those people who complained about how their videos, stories, UGC, etc... were great. And if the Creators would just give them a chance they could prove it. Those same people never gave a reason why the creators should waste their time on someone else when they had their own show to work on.
ReplyDeleteWell, here is your chance. I predict none of those people will even bother. It's easier to complain than actually take a chance and risk being a failure. This is exactly why the creators should not waste their time listening to fans.
Profit sharing? Sure, they'll just have Jonas write you a check.
I totally just couldn't hold my tounge on this one.
ReplyDeletehere goes ..
"MM Said ... especially if the creator of the series is able to bring in their own sponsor. It is hard to see how Eqal could have any problem with that. Right?"
But would that mean that since The creators would now have shared creative control of your series, and are paying to put it on their site, promote it, etc. that if you did get an outside sponsor you would have to share the revenue you make from them with EQAL Inc.?
Sure the exposure on the site might have helped draw in those sponsors, but it was your actual work that made the series itself. Kinda reminds me of a pyramid scheme.
"CG Said ... the nagging TOS issues have never been resolved." Very true. Technically, they have a new site and have not explained the terms of service of it. assuming it remains the same as the old site, then (the way that I understand it) EQAL Inc. would have the ability to use your videos and concept without having to provide you monetary compensation for it. The original fear was that applied to videos posted as responses on the site, or in the forums, etc. In the C's defense they have not directly done this thus far, but I personally wouldn't hand anyone the rights of use (in original or adapted form) to my creation without a well defined legal agreement in place concerning future profits and ownership.
I mean sheesh, ya got two lawyers. Aint even gotta pay the legal fee's ;)
"MM Said ... What exactly are the creators bringing to the party given that we will probably be highly restricted in how we can use their characters and their elements and we do not even know if there will be any future to LG15 and if there is we will have to work within the confines of some non existent future story."
Great question. Also, what happened to the shows that were suppsoed to be based in other countires? (I think it was Canada and Italy maybe, or France.)
"JALG Said ... we're going to entirely abandon the current show in order to turn our attention to new characters within the same universe, correct? So what about Jonas and Maggie, who are being raped and tortured? And Daniel and Reed, who are presumably going to try and help them?"
It seems to me as if they are jumping ship perhaps? Re-thinking their story structure? Maybe im reading too much into it, but thats the vibe I get.
"Mitch said .. wait I think I relise what this is about, this is a test from the creators1 to show how difficult it can be to come up with daily content for 12 weeks straight! great joke C's!:P"
It's even harder when you don't have sponsors to pay for your props, actors, time, etc.
Anyway, good to see everybody talking. Stay warm and have a Merry Xmas.
i posted this on inside as well
ReplyDeleteim not going to lie either, I absolutely love this idea and i hope you can assure the community that it’ll work out completly fine, and there will be no UCG Limitation issues.
I cant wait for this, but everyone is wondering about if theres a new season of TR. well, maybe you dont know, maybe you dont want to give away too much information.. i mean some of the actors might have other projects. Like marnette has a movie coming up in 2009, jackson also does.. so maybe all your actors might not be available when needed. so your waiting to announce if theres a new season or not. or if your just going to take a little break (like now)
in other words. i cant wait for the new ideas. its gonna be fun
Hehe, when I first heard about this idea I lol'd. Why? Well you know how when a 12 in 12 happens? Most people are pissed, and critique it on end, talk about what could have been better? Share their ideas? etc?
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is EQAL's way of saying "You think you can do it better?"
Granted if we all had money for a production crew, we probably could pull off some amazing shit. Hell, I'm one person and 3rd Triad is pretty decent if I do say so myself.
If EQAL gives the winner a production crew to help with the series, granted. However without one, all that work on one person is out of the question unless they have lots and lots of free time on their hands and have no financial responsibilities.
"An EQAL producer may consult with you and your production team and review scripts and videos to ensure that your story is consistent with the LG15 Universe and uploaded in a timely manner for the benefit of the community."
ReplyDeleteIt seems pretty clear that EQAL is the one who is low-commitment on this. Note "you and your production team." As in, EQAL's only job is to have a producer look over and potentially change your story (hence the loss of creative control), but you and YOUR production team are supposed to do the entire production work here.
This is why I say this is a full-time job commitment, and that whomever is chosen really ought to be monetarily compensated.
One of the problems here is that much of the UGC content produced by people in the Breeniverse community now takes place outside the LG15 Universe because of the TOS issues.
ReplyDeleteI think most of the people who watched The Home Office agreed that the series would have done better if it had been set outside the LG15 Universe. Without a legitimate hook wthin an on going series it just failed to get any traction. On the other hand shows like Maddison Atkins, RedEarth88, With The Angels, 3rd Triad etc that have been set outside the LG15 Universe have gone over better because they told their own story. Maddison Atktin Ch 1 did have its own hook which would have allowed it to connect to the LG15 Univerese if Bree has not been such a silly monkey and responded to out requests for help.
ReplyDeleteNow perhaps if the creator of the story has full access to the LG15 bible and future story line this could actually work. Other than that what has worked well are the spoofs and parodies and of course the pure fan fiction community videos that were produced for fun as Mitch pointed out.o
Enter Redearth88 into the contest. There are already a good amount of vids and puzzles. :P

ReplyDeleteSadly, I think the restrictions and details prove that this is only open to people who have a big budget, and a big crew behind them, leaving people like mitch and loretta behind. I'm almost certain whos going to win.
ReplyDeleteI would sign in but what I'm suggesting I don't want my name attached to.
I'd rather see a good produced show then crappy fan videos, with bad actors and bad sound.
ReplyDeletelol thanks 9:48 Anonymous for counting me out already:P even though im not entering anyway, i refuse to let them own Lonefox101 and call it thier own, force me to make videos on a timed schedule and not get payed for it:P No thanks, no offense but Im sticking with Lonefox101 Season 3:Chaos Echoes:P
ReplyDelete"I'm almost certain whos going to win."
ReplyDeletewhy thank you, anon. I think my spinoff entitled "Lg15: 2Girls1cup" will be quite entertaining.
After the way Eqal seized control of the fan created content on LGPedia and tried to turn it into their own Eqal controlled pedia it is not exactly surprising the approach Eqal is taking here. That said fans have long wanted more exposure for community videos. I just do not think this is the format any of us ever expected or wanted. However I guess we just need to make the most of the opportunity since it does not seem like LG15: The Resistance is going to return any time soon.

LULZ
Is there a deadline for this misguided malarkey?
ReplyDeleteI just want the Resistance second season. I like community videos and all, but the way this is going, it seems that IF the second season starts, it will be somewhere in april or may. I mean, come on. That's a way too long time span to keep people curious about the second season. I already read some comments on insidelg15 that people were finally excited about lg15 again but that there's a big chance they will lose intersest again, because of the long wait. If they wanted to end the Resistance show, they should have wrapped the story up with the 12in12. And not make a final video with Reed with Daniel, because that's making people curious about next season. You can not make people wait for the next season that long. And who knows, aybe when it's april, after this TSIY thing, they say that there will be no 2nd season at all. That's what I'm thinking anyway. This is not good!

ReplyDelete"Enter Redearth88 into the contest. There are already a good amount of vids and puzzles."
ReplyDeleteYeah. Two videos a week and daily content. -_-
Who does own Tachyon anyway? I never got all of the details straight.
ReplyDeleteFans of lonelygirl15/ LG15: The Resistance have long requested that the creators allow for a much closer integration of their fan creations with the main series. The idea was that this could have been done by creating a “hook” within the main series that fans could play off to create their own stories. This is a request that was consistently ignored by the creators. Fans of course did end up telling their own stories but if one of them came too close to looking like it was part of the main series the creators would “out” the series as “fan fiction” which often killed it in terms of the excitement these fan creations brought to the universe. The argument given by the creators was the they needed to protect their story.
ReplyDeleteNow for LG15: TSIY the creators are allowing creators to tell their own story but it comes at a time where there is no main series to provide a “hook”. Now the creators have indicated that they will provide advice to ensure that the story told is consistent with the LG15 Universe. This is a different model from what the fans had long requested and it remains to be seen if it will work better or worse.
It would have been nice if the creators had listened to the fans a long time ago. There are a lot of very good video series creators within the community and many have been alienated to the extent they now tell their story outside the LG15 Universe. While the creators have long paid lip service to community videos they failed to support and promote them in a way consistent with fan needs. This present initiative is a positive move in may ways but their is also a layer of cynicism because of the history of the situation.
The lessen here to anyone who wants to engage fans is to listen closely to them. To just say you are listening is not enough. Actions that show you understand their concerns is what count. This is a new paradigm for a new World. I am not saying that creators need to jump every time a fan has a good idea because sometimes you have to hold true to your own vision. However if you do not listen and respond, your vision may just die on the vine.
