WHAT TIME IS IT?...LIVE Coverage of Glenn on BreeFM
Glenn, live on BreeFM @11pm EST, Wednesday.
Glenn has had a cold.
Glenn got a ShamWOW because he loved the commercial and it totally works. Now Vince is pushing a new "vegimatic" called the Slapchop. Glenn likes how Vince manages to sell things "with contempt". Glenn got some great Marvel Comic stuff.
A lot of people speculated that lonelygirl15 might have been a viral marketing ploy for the remake of the Wickerman. It is a terrible movie. You will watch it and then get bored. Then you will find yourself yelling at the screen. Then the last half hour it seems to lift you up to the heavens. Nicholas Cage is running around in a bear suit and punches a woman in the face. It is just that absurd. You need to see it!
Glenn watched "The Wrestler". Nicholas Cage was originally signed on for the lead role! During the awards season screener copies are sent out on DVD. It is a great time of year if you have connections. They are full DVD copies. You have all heard the hype but it is easily one of the best movies Glenn has seen in the last 10 years. Mickey Rourke really brings it. The characters seem so real you feel like you are watching a slice of life. Marisa Tomei plays a stripper. Glenn would be shocked if Mickey Rourke does not win best actor.
Glenn premiered a brand new mash-up. It is kind of fun:
23:54:41 The Go-Go's vs Lil Wayne - We Got The Money (Glen: Mash-Up) [Extended Outro]
Glenn played one of his favorite things. He is a huge fan of the alternate versions of songs (eg a cappella). Glenn has been playing around with "center channels" to make a cappellas that are not available. You notice things you would not otherwise notice. To demonstrate the point Glenn played a song (Rainy Days of Monday - Karen Carperter) and then isolated parts of the song by playing with the levels. It is very easy to do if you have surround sound. He then repeated the process with Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel.

If you listen to Dire Straits - "Money For Nothing" you can hear Stings vocals. Glenn again played with the center channel to make it clear. Glenn then applied the technique (center channel extracts from 5.1 surround sound mixes) to Man On The Moon.
Mari suggested Glenn do a mash up with a song that he hates. It sounds good just listening to the center channel. Glenn then played Tom Cochrane, "Life is a Highway". According to Glenn "i despise this song but i despise it so much that i almost enjoy it".
Glenn then played Hootie and the Blowfish, Only Wanna Be With You followed by Michael Jackson,
Don't Stop Til You Get Enough and "Burning Down the House" - Talking Heads and Barenaked Ladies - Pinch Me. The center channel is focused on the mono instruments: voice... bass... bass drum, snare. When you record music you do not use stereo mics. You lay down various tracks to create a rich stereo sound. You have a "wall of sound" that makes it sound really big. If you used a stereo mic you would pick up accoustics that sounded "cluttered". People set up a lot of mono mics and then take each component and mix them in different "locations" to take advantage of the stereo separation. If you look at the mixing board it is all over the place. With a surround sound mix you have 6 speakers.
If you own a DVD movie with surround sound then you already have a track that you can use this technique on. Glenn then played several songs from the Best of R.E.M. DVD to demonstrate the point.
Happy New Year!
