Where did Harper's Globe twitter go?
The Harpers Globe Twitter account (http://twitter.com/Harpers_Globe ) currently leads to the following message:
"Who goes there?
Sorry, the account you were headed to has been suspended due to strange activity. Mosey along now, nothing to see here."
It would appear that the 436 is out to get Harper's Globe!

Harper's Island is intended for viewing solely in the United States and Canada at this time.
That's not good because twitter has notoriously bad customer service.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that!
it was probably suspended because they were spamming all the time.
ReplyDeletejust a thought...
I don't think it deserved to get suspended. They weren't spamming so much as promoting, which is okay. Spamming is when you link to a website where you can "get a free laptop" but its complete bullocks. I've seen tons of those people.
ReplyDeleteThey did link to Harper's Globe a lot, but the homepage updates so I think that's what's throwing things off because its exactly the same URL, but not always exactly the same content.
I've seen people who are much more annoying in their linkage. They'll post like 20+ links at a time that overflow my whole page. So unless Harper's Globe did something specific last night, I don't see a problem.
if you look at the twitter support page on why accounts can be suspended, the most logical reason for the suspension was the heavy pushing of HG on twitterites.
ReplyDeleteit happened probably because twitter isnt an advertising site, its an update site. And the hg account was constantly linking in every tweet. I think near enough everyone who was friends with the hg account knew there was a new vid, or knew about the site anyway.
ReplyDeleteTwitter is about promoting & marketing more than anything else. Bloggers & content producers use twitter to get the word out. That's what EVERY article says about twitter and that's how its meant to be used. You connect with people with similar interests & share content. Bloggers regularly follow me and if I'm interested in what they talk about I follow back. I personally don't have a blog but I'm interested in specific areas like the outdoors, web shows and Lost, so I follow the appropriate people.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who thinks twitter isn't meant for marketing doesn't understand the power of twitter.
No one is saying Twitter isn't meant for marketing, what they ARE saying is there is a way to do it right and a way to do it wrong. If a large portion of people are complaining that you are spamming them, then you are doing it wrong and need to make adjustments. Preferably before your account gets suspended but still...
ReplyDeleteBut is there anyway to know? Most people just block and ignore. I don't pay attention to spammers who follow me. I just don't click the links & don't respond. I think there should be a warning system. Even youtube has a warning system (and I HATE dealing with youtube and contacting them).
ReplyDeleteThey have an automatic system that profiles accounts and looks for spam like behavior.
ReplyDeleteTwitter states that when many people block you that is one of the signs they use for spam.
It was 436 up to it's usual shenanigans.
