The accepted history now goes that lonelygirl15's fans were "shocked" when she was outed in september 06, but of course in reality many people presumed it was fictional (to varying degrees) even at this point. Lonelygirl15.com started to become active (though no one was going there) a few days before this video was posted, and when Hiking was posted, it garnered one comment:
