Reservoir Hill: Netting the web audience
Now New Zealand is getting in on the web act. Reservoir Hill is an interactive online drama, described by its producers, Wellington's David Stubbs and Thomas Robins of KHF media, as being "as dark as Twilight and as bitchy as Gossip Girl".

KiwiGirl?
ReplyDeleteIf you ask me you ignored the juice of the story. This claims not to be another girl vlog story. The interaction seems to take what lg15 did to the next level:
ReplyDeleteExplains Robins: "There've been other online dramas overseas but not one, to our knowledge, that the audience gets to text the characters, and they act on the text. So we like to think it's possibly a world first in that respect. It's like a game - we've created a world for Beth, dropped her in it and let her negotiate her way through it, with the help of her mates [the viewers]."
It would be easier to see how well it is executed if we had access to the episodes. In an internet era, using "plots of land" to determine location is kinda backward and it it unfortunate they chose to do that. Otherwise, it looks interesting and she appears to interact well in the vlogs
ReplyDeleteThere have been plenty of ARGs and series that utilize text messaging. Both Valemont and the current Heroes web series are doing it. And in fact, didn't OpAphid utilize it as well? I wasn't participating that early on.
ReplyDeleteTo try to take "world first" in that arena is a bit presumptuous I think.
The "world first" claim was a bit weird. As said above it would be nice to see the actual eps so that we can see just how interactive the series is. We only get a sense of that from the vlogs.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the integration of texts is all that revolutionary but this seems to be more than sending alerts or voting via text message. They are basically saying they are going to incorporate the text into the story by acknowledging it in video days after receiving it.
ReplyDeleteYep, and she makes a reasonable attempt to integrate the discussions into the vlog to provide a context. I just wish we could see the full episodes and not just the vlogs.
ReplyDeleteYes, blocking your content to anyone outside New Zealand is really going to knock down your "revolutionary" quotient.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame because it actually looks like a really great series...I wish I could be a part of it.
