"That's a big number, but stream fraud could be pushing 30% or more -- and that's just criminal."

This is clearly a huge problem. Especially the autoplay issue. It does not help that these "fake" numbers get reported over and over like they are real.
ReplyDeleteAt least YouTube does some things to keep this fraud under control.
Coincidentally Mashable came out with it's Top 10 Most Watched Web Series for March 2010: http://twitter.com/mashable/status/11845679132
ReplyDeleteI'm not trying to start any trouble but shouldn't Bannen still be on the list? Aren't all the factors that made it white hot still present? I can't wrap my head around it.
bannen is not on the list because they don't release verifiable stats, i think newteevee followed up and posted about that.
ReplyDeleteas usual, the real top 10 list has almost nothing on it like the webseries we see being promoted by the streamys.
The problem with the NTV figures for Bannen is that they include "auto starts" as a full play.
ReplyDelete1. they are autoplays
2. there is no evidence they were full or even 50 percent views.
Unless Sony releases real figures we have absolutely no idea if anyone watched Bannen let alone they 13m claimed.
Oh wait, CORRECTION, I watched the entire series! It was actually quite good.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else?
milo: Bannen was #6 for Feb. http://mashable.com/2010/03/05/top-10-web-series-february/
ReplyDeleteDo the videos have to be online for them to be on the list? I think there are only 2 banner videos left online.
