The Webventures of Justin & Alden - Episode 1
What is the quickest way to fame and riches? Simple, make a web series. Come along as Justin & Alden, script and a years supply of Trident Layers® in hand, begin their epic, 4 mile road trip in search of fame and glory.
So far the first episode hold promise, it was actually rather funny. Also, there was something very familiar about the opening line of the video description.
I know this is not going to win me any friends (feels just like old times) but I see a lot of prominent people signing off on this pretty much sight unseen and we all know how well that works out.
ReplyDeleteI understand this is just the first episode but my concern is we bashed the Streamys because it didn't honor web series or their creators, how is this any different? "What is the quickest way to fame and riches? Simple, make a web series." If you're already a fan of one of the web series stars that makes a cameo or new to web series and are tuning in just for Shannen Doherty or Milo Ventimiglia, what is going to be your takeaway opinion of web series creators? That and the integration of the Streamys invites people who haven't seen the show to Google it and that can only end badly.
I don't think the writers were bashing web series, Sandeep is in two of the shows they mentioned. As for the Streamys, what were they to do, scrap the whole series because the Streamys sucked?
ReplyDeleteNo I don't think they are bashing web series either but it kinda looks like they are portraying web series creators as buffoons in it as a get rich quick scheme. Who knows maybe the thing ends with one of them saying "wow making a web series is tougher than I thought, let's leave it to the pros. I know let's put on an award show for web series instead!"
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah I'm sure they were as pissed as anyone when the Streamys went bad. No minimizing that really. Maybe they could have done something with the timing, maybe waited. "Too soon?"
Well, its only 5 episodes long, even if they only release one a week it will be over soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm honestly not trying to stir up anything. I feel like if we raise this concern now, they still have time to address or fix it in the show if it needs it.
ReplyDeleteSo- I guess we'll see.
They just need to have someone in the show say:
ReplyDelete"Whatever happened to that girl Cassie?"
Worked last time, so I say give it a go.
The wit of Parikh and Janning certainly shines through in the writing. Great jokes and great pacing.
ReplyDeleteAnthony, they most likely filmed it all and have it already edited. It certainly does seem like a web series for web series fans. I wonder how people unfamiliar with the shows mentioned in it will view it.
Anthony,
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, we had no idea what we were actually getting when we incorporated the Streamys into the story. While the awards may not have gone as most of us planned, in the end we had what we felt was a great series with a lot of amazing people in it. It would have been a shame not to let it see the light of day in spite of the Streamys.
As for how it portrays web series creators, well... I guess you'll just have to watch and see, and perhaps trust Sandeep, Tony, Sean, Wilson, Dominik (Easy to Assemble), myself, and the rest of the web series vets who are responsible for putting this together. ;)

Hey Jeff-
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. I don't trust anyone but that's my hangup. If you can turn Streamy lemons into lemonade and still portray web series creators in a positive light, I'll be the first in line to shake your hand.
