Transmedia Schmansmedia

My biggest issue with transmedia is ultimately it is an academic word first, an industry word second.

  1. Transmedia is such a broad word that it might take a "set of words" to fully describe all of its potential. For example some projects are just extensions while others are organic and fully contained. Is it reasonable to expect the "end user" to get all the nuances of a single word. Likewise some projects are based on books while others are based on movies etc etc. To a degree these lead to very different experiences.

In other words if you group all experiences in a broad term it tends to loose any meaning. Yet, if you make things too specific it become so fragmented it is difficult to "brand" the word. Is there a happy balance?
