There definitely seemed to be a lot of emphasis placed on select established Youtubers as opposed to giving exposure to the next gen of Tubers which i think a lot of pple would have enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteThe bubble completely taking over the panels had a LOT to do with this. (Reducing the chances of Youtubers being able to help the newer/smaller Youtubers on the main floors.) Some Youtubers made a huge mistake hiding behind the suits for much of Vidcon and this is something you do at your own risk.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this because it's probably the most honest description of the tone of Vidcon2012 we've seen to date.
This is a very important discussion for the community to have because the last thing we need is to re-create the gatekeeper system of traditional media. Empowering the next generation of YouTubers should be one of the key functions of Vidcon. It is a perfect opportunity to "surface" the next gen of YouTubers that many of us have yet to discover. Yet much of Vidcon seemed to be focus on a small select group of YouTubers and an exclusive group of individuals/Web series on the panels.
