Democracy Now: Stop the Drug War: Mexican Poet Javier Sicilia Condemns U.S. Role in Widening Drug Violence

One of Mexico's best-known poets, Javier Sicilia, laid down his pen last year after his 24-year-old son was murdered by drug traffickers in Cuernavaca, Mexico. In his son's memory, Sicilia created the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity to urge an end to the drug violence -- violence that has left an estimated 60,000 dead, 10,000 disappeared, and more than 160,000 Mexicans displaced from their homes over the past six years. Sicilia is now in the United States to launch a month-long peace caravan to "bring to the American people's conscience their shared responsibility for the thousands of dead, missing and displaced in the drug war."

We end the week with part two of our interview with renowned Mexican poet Javier Sicilia. Last year Sicilia's 24-year-old son, Juan Francisco, was murdered by drug traffickers in Cuernavaca, Mexico. In his son's memory, Sicilia created the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity to urge an end to the drug war. Sicilia is now in the United States to launch a month-long peace caravan this August after leading a similar caravan across Mexico last year. "We are outraged because the war has done nothing for us -- it has not solved the problem," Sicilia says. Hi everyone! We are super excited to be a part of WebSeriesToday and can't wait for all of you to watch the Web Series Just Moved In.

So far we have already released 8 episodes. They're all under 2 minutes and we actually try to keep each episode around 1 minute. The actors, Natalia Reyes & Andrew Ruth are incredibly talented (and easy on the eyes!) and I'm pretty sure you'll have a really good laugh watching them go through the process of moving in together!

Just Moved In is a Web Series created & directed by Clementine Cayrol & shot by Josh Batista that follows a couple, Max & Camila, who decide to move in together! Each episode depicts a funny moment of that process, as they learn how to behave with the other person always around!

Web Series Today is a collaborative blog where community members who have applied for "author" status keep the community up to date with what is going on in the World of Web series.

Periodically we update the "author" list for Web Series Today. As has been explained several times previously, the "Blogger platform" restricts the number of "authors" to 100. This means that to add new "authors" we have to remove inactive "authors".

If you are an "author" and have posted on Web Series Today in the last 30 days you do not need to do anything.

If you are an "author" and have not posted on Web Series Today in the last 30 days you maybe removed from the list to make room for a new "author" as needed. If you anticipate needing to post regularly in the near future you can prevent this from happening by sending an e-mail to [email protected] with "KEEP" in the subject line.

If you are an "author" and no longer want to contribute to Web Series Today then you can make your position available to a new "author" by sending an e-mail to [email protected] with "REMOVE" in the subject line.

If you are not an "author" and wish to become one then you should read the FAQ page and follow the directions given there. It should be noted that "author" positions are intended only for those who wish to keep the community up to date on a regular basis. If you were previously an "author" who was removed from the list because you became inactive, and you wish to be added again, then you need to follow the same procedure.

If you have already applied to be an "author" then you have been added to the wait list and you will be added as soon as a new position is available.
