CALEDONIA Scottish supernatural web series

CALEDONIA follows the story of police officer Leah Bishop, who accepts a transfer to a Glasgow branch of Interpol.  She discovers her fellow officers are monsters from Scottish folklore, and they have recruited her to help them solve a very human crime: the first serial killing of faeries.

The programme is based on a series of urban fantasy novels written by a Scottish folklorist.  Leah Bishop and her selkie partner Dorian Grey investigate supernatural crime in Scotland's city of culture.

What do you think are the "best" Web series awards shows or festivals?



On the occasion of the Geekie Awards submissions recently opening, what does the community consider to be the "best" awards shows or festivals?  The Geekies and the IAWTV awards appear to be the most prestigious events, based upon our cursory scan of numbers of followers and mentions in other media outlets, but here's our confession:  we have no compass for judging this.

"Best" can be, in your opinion, along the lines of most visible, most legitimate (as in taken seriously by peers in the business), most "street cred" (as in esteemed by fans) ... whatever criteria, so long as you explain your thinking, so we can learn from it.

I think this discussion would be worthwhile for n00bs (that includes us), because every awards show or festival claims it's the "premiere blah blah blah."  It would be nice to have some collective opinions in order to gauge the relative import of each of these events before one spends one's hard-earned ducats on submission fees for an event that only 14 people will attend or that no one in the real world takes seriously (might as well self-publish a novel on Amazon, am I right?).

My Terrible Boyfriend - spoof sitcom series

MY TERRIBLE BOYFRIEND

Both Harriet Kemsley and Bobby Mair are successful comedians in their own right. Harriet winning Funny’s Funny, Up The Creek, Bath and Brighton comedy competitions, along with supporting Katherine Ryan on tour. Bobby has won and been nominated for major awards in the UK and his native Canada, along with opening for Doug Stanhope. Together they have created a new web series that is, very sadly, based on their real romantic life together.


My Terrible Boyfriend is an attempt by Harriet to deal with Bobby’s shortcomings, for Bobby it’s a chance to show the world what a great boyfriend he is. He hasn’t realised the name of the series contradicts his view. The director, Stuart Laws has set the show up as a classic, cheesy sitcom about a couple and their “wacky” life that they have together with an over-the-top title sequence and ludicrously bouncy graphics. However, when each episode starts it becomes clear that reality is a lot dingier and darker.

The first two episodes, “New Phone” and “Water Park” are already available, with further episodes to follow over the year. Unless Bobby pushes it too far and Harriet has to cancel the series.

John Ridley got to grace the Oscars stage tonight when he took home the award for best adapted screenplay for 12 Years a Slave, and we caught up with him on the red carpet before heading in. John talked a bit about what it took for him to translate this story into a film, the experience of working with Chiwetel Ejiofor, and the most touching response he's gotten to the movie.
