What is YouTube planning to do to their comments platform?
In the wake of the Reddit, debacle Susan Wojcicki of Google raised the specter of changes to the YouTube comment system with a Tweet today during Vidicon 2015. In response to a Tweet from John Green and the subsequent discussion (see below) regarding YouTube comments, Susan Wojcicki Tweeted: "Yes working on updates for Youtube comments".
So far there has been no clarification of the statement, but the YouTube comments platform is part of Googles G+ social networking platform that some have speculated maybe phased out. With Googles substantial investment in G+ it does not seem likely that they will phase it out, but this does raise the question of what changes Google is planning on making and, more importantly, how will that affect the YouTube community.

Democracy Now: Ta-Nehisi Coates on Being Black in America
We spend the hour with Ta-Nehisi Coates, author of "Between the World and Me," an explosive new book about white supremacy and being black in America. The book begins, "Here is what I would like for you to know: In America, it is traditional to destroy the black body—it is heritage." It is written as a letter to his 15-year-old son, Samori, and is a combination of memoir, history and analysis. Its publication comes amidst the shooting of nine African-American churchgoers by an avowed white supremacist in Charleston; the horrifying death of Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old African-American woman in Texas who was pulled over for not signaling a lane change; and the first anniversary of the police killings of Eric Garner in Staten Island and Michael Brown in Ferguson. Coates talks about how he was influenced by freed political prisoner Marshall "Eddie" Conway and writer James Baldwin, and responds to critics of his book, including Cornel West and New York Times columnist David Brooks. Coates is a national correspondent at The Atlantic, where he writes about culture, politics, and social issues.
RED BIRD a Kickstarter Web Series Success!
RED BIRD is coming later this year! The series creators had shot six episodes of the first season and crowd-sourced funding to shoot the final two episodes. Initially setting a goal of $10,000, the campaign blew past that mark and ended with $12,065 raised from 115 backers on Kickstarter!

RED BIRD Web Series - Kickstarter Picking Up Steam!
The brand new web series RED BIRD is picking up steam. The series is directed by a woman, follows a badass female protagonist, and includes an all-star cast, including Armin Shimerman (who was Quark on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Principal Snyder from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer).

Yes, when I get stressed out I start to question absolutely everything in my life which is probably not a really great strategy. VidCon starts this time next week...so it will be interesting to see if I can get a video done!
